A Life Not Wasted

To say what I wouldn't otherwise.
A song for every emotion.

Disparity

It’s not what you know, but who.

I grew up hating that phrase. It was the antithesis of my own personal mantra: Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard. It basically said that all of one’s time and effort could ultimately be voided if someone else had an inside source. In my eyes, it was the definition of inequity, the archetype of unfair. It made me cringe to think that the good guy didn’t come out on top.

Fortunately, those were naive times, and I now know that life is far from honest. I’ve long since realized that bad things do in fact happen to good people (quite often, actually), and that no god, level of karma, or good will precludes anyone from life’s works. So, there’s no use analyzing - no use generalizing.

Too bad that’s much easier said than done.

Ends That Don’t Meet

Sometimes I just want her to break down in front of me, so I can be there for her. So I can show her that I’m not like everyone else. So I can show her that I know she’s not like the rest of them and that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. So for once, she can be herself.

I can tell she has her walls up — that she rarely ever shows anyone her true self. I can tell she doesn’t want to truly trust anyone. But, I don’t blame her, because quite honestly, the vast majority of people just aren’t worth trusting.

She’s different, though— and so am I. But, these ends just don’t meet.
